What is GRE Exam?

The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is a standardized test that is widely used as an admissions requirement for graduate and business school programs in the United States and in various other countries around the world. The GRE is administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), and it assesses a test taker's verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, analytical writing, and critical thinking skills.

Verbal Reasoning :

This section measures a test taker's ability to analyze and evaluate written material, understand and synthesize information, and comprehend and evaluate arguments. It includes questions on reading comprehension, text completion, and sentence equivalence.

Quantitative Reasoning :

This section assesses a test taker's ability to understand, interpret, and analyze quantitative information, solve mathematical problems, and apply mathematical concepts to real-world scenarios. It includes questions on arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis.

Analytical Writing :

This section evaluates a test taker's ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and effectively, support arguments with evidence and examples, and demonstrate critical thinking and analytical skills. Test takers are required to write two essays: an "Issue Task," where they present their perspective on a given topic, and an "Argument Task," where they analyze and critique an argument.

The GRE is administered as a computer-based test (CBT) and is available year-round at authorized testing centers around the world. Test takers can register for the GRE online through the ETS website and select a test date and location that is convenient for them.

Scores for the GRE are reported on a scale of 130 to 170 for the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning sections, and on a scale of 0 to 6 for the Analytical Writing section. Many graduate and business schools use GRE scores as part of their admissions process to assess the academic readiness and potential of prospective students.

Preparing for the GRE typically involves studying the content and format of the exam, practicing with sample questions and full-length practice tests, and utilizing study materials such as prep books, online courses, and tutoring services. Many test takers also choose to take advantage of official GRE preparation materials provided by ETS.
