Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) :

In this section, gmat-analytical-writing-assessment test takers are required to analyze an argument and write an essay that critiques the reasoning behind the argument. Test takers are evaluated on their ability to articulate complex ideas, support arguments with evidence and examples, and demonstrate effective written communication skills.

Integrated Reasoning (IR) :

The IR section assesses a test taker's ability to analyze and synthesize data presented in various formats, including tables, graphs, and text passages. Test takers are required to interpret information, evaluate relationships between data points, and solve complex problems using integrated reasoning skills.

Quantitative Reasoning :

This section measures a test taker's ability to reason quantitatively, solve mathematical problems, and interpret and analyze data. It includes questions on arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and data analysis, with an emphasis on problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Verbal Reasoning :

The verbal reasoning section evaluates a test taker’s ability to understand and evaluate written material, recognize logical relationships between ideas, and analyze and evaluate arguments. It includes questions on reading comprehension, critical reasoning, and sentence correction.

The GMAT is administered as a computerized-adaptive testing (CAT), which means that the difficulty level of questions adjusts based on the test taker’s performance. Test takers are presented with one question at a time, and their responses to previous questions determine the difficulty level of subsequent questions.

GMAT scores are reported on a scale of 200 to 800, with separate scores provided for the verbal, quantitative, analytical writing, and integrated reasoning sections. Business schools use GMAT scores, along with other admissions criteria such as academic background, work experience, and
letters of recommendation, to evaluate applicants and make admissions decisions.

Preparing for the GMAT typically involves studying the content and format of the exam, practicing with sample questions and full-length practice tests, and utilizing study materials such as prep books, online courses, and tutoring services. Many test takers also choose to take advantage of
official GMAT preparation materials provided by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC), the organization that administers the GMAT.
